On October 8, 2019, the City of Minneapolis drafted wage theft frequently asked questions (FAQs) and rules documents to provide general guidance to employers and employees about their rights and responsibilities under the city’s wage theft prevention ordinance that is effective January 1, 2020. The FAQs and rules are available for public review and comment through December 31, 2019.
To help prevent wage theft, the city adopted parts of the state’s new wage theft law into local ordinance. Under the local ordinance and state law, employers must adhere to a regularly scheduled payday, provide prehire notices of certain employment terms and conditions, and provide earnings statements at the end of each pay period.
